Our Mission (WHY WE EXIST)
The Village Association of Batavia (VAOB) is dedicated to preserving the historic character and fostering the economic revitalization of Batavia's Main Street District.

The VAOB provides leadership to operate the Main Street Program in Batavia which is effective in sustaining this mission; promoting and makreting Batavia's Main Street; improving the appearance of Main Street while preserving its hisoric character; and assisting in economic restructuring.

Values (PRINCIPLES THAT GUIDE OUR WORK)

  1. Membership in the VAOB is open to anyone who is inerested in helping the VAOB to succeed in its mission.
  2. The foremost role of the VAOB and its Board of Directors is to provide leadership to achieve its mission.
  3. The VAOB's work is characterized by a sense of urgency, a 'can-do' attitude, self-reliance, decisiveness, and commitment to achievement.
  4. We seek the experience of others working to preserve and revitalize their communities. We learn about best practices and reapply them, rather than reinvent them. We reciprocate by sharing our learning with others.
  5. The VAOB has effective working relationships with government officials, community leaders, business owners and people who live or work in Batavia. We strive to be cooperative and pursue common interests.
New Stuff
We've recently updated our website with more information, helpful answers and interesting graphics to better serve our members and the public. Please feel free to explore our site to find all about the VAOB.

The VAOB has been working with the Batavia Planning and Zoning Board for the past year to write Historic Design Guidelines for a newly delineated historic district in Batavia. Having a set of guidelines is a proactive approach to the development of the historic properties in the village and will greatly increase the value of the properties. Responsible design emulates other historic districts such as Mariemont, Milford and Loveland. These guidelines will make it possible for Batavia to secure state and federal grants for the construction of the proposed streetscape projects. For a printed copy of the Historic Design Guidelines, contact the Batavia Village Office at (513) 732-2020. Or, see our web page under Links.

One of our local improvement projects is focusing the restoration of the East Fork of the Little Miami bridge. The original custom bridge lights have fallen into disrepair over time. They are in need of metal fabrication, electrical repair and paint. Through an anonymous benefactor, money has been donated to bring the lights back to original condition. The VAOB is facilitating this restoration and hope to dedicate the fixtures by the end of 2007.
